Principal's Message

I am excited to once again have the privilege of serving the McNair school community as the principal for the 2016-2017 school year.

As we begin the new school year, we all need to be reminded of how significant our role is in the life of a child. As we strive to create a positive, strong learning environment for ALL of our students we will be working harder than ever this year to achieve academic success. Parent involvement and support are essential to the success of your child and the school. With your help, we can achieve success in reaching our goals and ensure academic growth for all. Please spend time with your child to help them improve their reading, writing, and mathematics. Please take part in their education by checking their homework and backpacks each night and attending school events. Be sure to communicate with your child’s teacher frequently, as well as checking for daily homework and other items that may be in your child’s backpack.

Please remember that it is important that all children come to school every day on time.  We have a 98% attendance goal for the upcoming school year.  Every day is an important day of learning.  Keep in mind, our goal is to fully prepare all students for the next grade level as the ultimate goal is for each student to that they are college and career ready!

This year, we are going to focus on increasing the use of technology in the classroom in order to provide our students with the 21st century skills they will need as they move through elementary, middle, and high school, and then on to college.  Using technology will increase student engagement and will allow us, as educators, to support the individual learning needs of each student.  Through the use of technology, we will be able to teach students to think critically, to communicate effectively, to work collaboratively with others, and to be creative in their thinking.

Home/ school communication will remain a priority this year.  We will continue to send home flyers, announcements, and other important events with the students.  In addition, we will be placing our school information on our website as a "21st Century" way to keep parents informed. You will still receive phone calls informing you about upcoming school events and reminders. In addition, we will use the marquee as another way of communicating current events.

Remember, I have an "Open Door" policy which means you may come and speak with me at any time or request a conference with me if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child's education.

I am truly excited about our future success and look forward to a WONDERFUL 2015/2016 school year!

Sincerely,

Rachel Collins
