Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,
Welcome to a new school year. We are looking forward to the 2016-2017 school year, and we are going to continue to create an environment that is conducive to learning and that is safe for our students. With your support, I believe that McNair Elementary School is going to have a wonderful year!
School begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 2:30 p.m. To enhance student achievement and to promote academic excellence, McNair Elementary School will continue to have “early release time” approximately two Wednesdays per month. On early release Wednesdays, school will begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 1:15 p.m. The remainder of the day, teachers will be involved in staff development and workshops where they will discuss and learn about teaching strategies and techniques designed to meet the individual needs of each student. This year, students will continue to have “Breakfast in the Classroom” at the beginning of each school day.
As we prepare to return to school, I would like to take this opportunity to share with you some important information. This year, we are going to focus on using technology to support the standards based instruction that is taking place in the classrooms. We will also be focusing on differentiating instruction to meet the needs of each student.
We will continue to implement Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) at McNair. The purpose of PBIS is to teach our students the social skills that are crucial for their success now and in the future.
Parent meetings and trainings will be held throughout the year so that you can learn about what is happening at McNair and how you can support your child. All parents and guardians are highly encouraged to attend these meetings. In addition, we welcome parent volunteers. Your involvement and support is valued and plays a vital role in ensuring the success of each student.
Please remember that student attendance is crucial for academic success. Our goal is to have every student in school every day! When students are in school, they are learning and preparing for their future. Overall, as a school community, McNair is working to have a 98% or higher attendance rate each week, each month, and for the entire school year.
It is extremely important that every student follows all school policies and rules, wears their school uniform every day, and brings school supplies every day. McNair Elementary School will continue to enforce the District’s MANDATORY UNIFORM POLICY. Every student must adhere to the dress code. There may be consequences for students who violate the dress code. The school uniform consists of the following:
White polo or button up shirt White polo shirt or blouse
Navy blue pants or shorts (no jeans) Navy blue pants, skirt, or shorts (no jeans)
The entire staff at McNair Elementary School is dedicated to providing each and every student with a quality education. We are looking forward to working with all of our parents/guardians. Remember, parents truly play a key role in student achievement. As a school community, we are committed to ensuring our students are college and career ready.
